Artist and Writer

Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul- and you answer - Terri Guillemets

Artist Statement

From a young age, my creative streak drew upon images of nature and culture in my surroundings as an inspiration for my art. Working primarily in acrylic and watercolor, my subject matters and compositions are a journey of warmth, color and culture. They seek to show my expression of a universal spirit and beauty in the world around us.

Nia Andino is a New York born visual artist and writer who creates cultural work reflecting the beauty and strength of her Afro- Boricua/Virgin Islands roots. As an art major at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts, it is here that Nia was exposed to different forms of art and began to develop a stronger sense of her own personal style. She continued to pursue a career in the arts and attended Parsons School of Design where she received a BFA in Interior Design. Upon graduating from Parsons, Nia contributed her talent as a scenic artist and production assistant to a variety of film and theater productions. Nia has also studied at The Art Student's League, The Finishing School and the Fashion Institute of Technology with courses ranging from printmaking to creating designer wall finishes and utilizing computer aided design in her prints.

Her art has been collected and shown at several galleries in New York, New Jersey, California and Puerto Rico including Pier 94, Aeon Logic, Abrazo Interno, Port Authority Terminal, Rio II, miLES, Center City, Rebelution Ink, LES Gallery,The Brecht Forum, Casa de Cultura Ruth Hernandez Torres.
